In the first year of Rwanda’s digital skills training program, 89,223 participants – 76,388 students, 11,465 teachers, and 1,370 educational leaders – were onboarded onto the Digital Skills Foundation training platform. Almost all teachers – 11,180 – completed the course and received their certification in digital literacy.
Approximately 15% of students completed the course and obtained certification during the first year, prompting the Government to reflect on the root causes inhibiting students’ training, including lack of access to computers and internet. To course correct, the Government established holiday-period “boot camps” for the first year’s cohort and extended its training period beyond the initial year.
