Barbara Eze is the Legal Officer at Big Win Philanthropy. Prior to joining Big Win, Barbara was an Associate at the UK Law firm Bates Wells where she advised charities, social enterprises and mission-driven business on a wide range of matters including governance, structuring, mergers and restructuring, and regulatory compliance. She also regularly supported clients with grant-making and contractual arrangements, with a particular interest in working with funders to critically examine how legal documents can reinforce power imbalances that have historically favored their position. Her work in this space involved redesigning grant arrangements and contracts to promote greater equity and shift traditional power dynamics. Barbara has a strong interest in African development, shaped by both her professional and volunteer experiences across the continent, as well as her academic background. Over the course of her career, she has worked and volunteered in Zambia, Nigeria and Malawi and she holds an LLM in International Law from SOAS University of London, where she focused on the role of law as a tool for development.
"Transformational development in Africa must be rooted in equity and led by the governments closest to the challenges. I am excited to support African-led solutions and to contribute to the role that Big Win plays in advancing sustainable, locally led progress."
